“I express myself with images, not with words.” This sentence by the great filmmaker Michelangelo Antonioni reflects what I believe as a visual artist, and as Marcel Proust described the writing talent of his fictional character, Mr. Bergotte, in his monumental work “In Search of Lost Time”, “his books are painted with words.” That is what I want to do: to write on canvas my thoughts with brushes and paints.
My images show how I perceive the world that surrounds me; it’s what I think and what I feel. I am thankful for the precious gift of being able to express my concerns through visual forms.
My professional experience in cartooning and illustration has helped me build a solid base for the further artistic exploration of my artistic identity. Driven by curiosity, I freely explore new creative possibilities offered with variety of available supports and mediums. This keeps my senses on constant alert. I believe that there are always new artistic avenues available to those who dare to push forward.
In my creations, I purposefully draw my lines with a solid stroke and sure hand. For me, the line is essential and far more than enough to create a visual statement between my work and its viewer. Inspired by the Renaissance, I create a personal form of “Sacred conversation”. I want to engage a wordless exchange of thoughts on the modern concerns between my vision and the viewers. By studying the evolution of different art forms through the ages, I attempt to integrate those influences into my artistic visions. This is an intellectual process of which I never grow tired. If one day I am, I will cease to be an artist.
My artistic mission relates to the depth of human psychological reaction to the continuously changing environment created by the speed of technological development. My artwork is a demonstration of my personal opinions regarding specific aspects of our modern world. I don’t criticize but hope to provide an image of the irony within our modern age.
I hope to show through my art a surrealistic view of the necessity of human adaptation to the harsh economically motivated conditions we live in. As a contemporary artist, I feel a need to document, trough my art, the evolution of our time in my own way.
